Reveal the beauty of your eyes with blepharoplasty!

What is blepharoplasty?

Plastic surgery of the eyelid is called “blepharoplasty” in the medical literature. The eyelids are of particular importance, as they are the thinnest skin structure of the body, protect very sensitive structures, are constantly moving and are easily influenced by environmental and genetic factors. Signs of aging begin in the 30s with the formation of wrinkles and bags around the eyes. Over time, the tension of the eyelids decreases, sagging and bags appear with the pressure of fatty tissues in their deep parts. Eyelid surgeries can be performed not only for aesthetic reasons, but also for congenital or acquired sagging of the eyelids or skin tumors of the eyelids. In addition to the reasons mentioned above, since it increases the reduced visual fields, it allows the eyes to open more easily and as a result facilitates many important daily activities such as reading a book.

Blepharoplasty Methods

As we age, the skin's tension decreases, it relaxes and lengthens, the muscles under the skin weaken and, especially when exposed to the sun's rays, spots called pigmentation appear on the skin. Since the skin around our eyes is thinner and more sensitive than other parts of the body, the effects of aging are mainly observed around the eyes. Various surgical interventions can be performed on the lower and upper eyelids to correct these problems, which are observed in both the upper and lower eyelids.

Upper Eyelid Aesthetics - Upper Blepharoplasty

The most common problem observed in the upper eyelids with age is excess skin. The thinning, lengthening and relaxation of the skin primarily causes a tired and sad appearance, while the progression of the problem over time can negatively affect vision. In aesthetic surgery of the upper eyelid, in addition to the excess skin of the eyelid, a small amount of subcutaneous muscle and/or fatty tissue can be removed if necessary. Both signs of aging and visual problems caused by the hood effect of the extra skin can be corrected.

Lower eyelid aesthetics – Lower blepharoplasty

The sagging and sagging of the skin and subcutaneous tissues under the eyes causes wrinkles in this area and bags under the eyes over time. In aesthetic surgery of the lower eyelid, the excess skin in this area is removed, while the excess fatty tissues in the bag areas are partially removed or spread to areas with fat loss. It is also possible to correct the sagging of the lower eyelid during this operation, which provides very effective rejuvenation around the eye, or to give a different look to the eye by changing the location of the outer corner of the eye. Some patients only plan to have surgery on the upper or lower eyelid, while a significant number of patients have both the upper and lower eyelids operated on, while at the same time, a complete rejuvenation of the eye contour can be achieved by adding eyebrow lifting procedures to the surgery for patients with drooping eyebrows.

After this procedure, patients experience a sharper and more striking look. Eyelid aesthetic procedures are used to treat common patient complaints of looking tired, irritated, or sleepy.

Although cosmetic eyelid surgery is a relatively easy process compared to other cosmetic surgeries, pre-operative tests thoroughly examine your overall health, wound healing abilities, and eye health in case of any eye complaints (eye pressure, dry eyes, lenses, and glasses). An ophthalmologist consultation is definitely necessary. Any medications you are taking, especially blood thinners. Any previous procedures should be disclosed to your doctor before the procedure.
